Ohio Siblings Praised for Saving School Bus Driver

In Ashland, Ohio, a brother and sister are being celebrated for their level-headed response when their school bus driver suffered a medical emergency.

Catrina, just 8 years old, first noticed something was wrong at the front of the bus and asked the driver if she was okay.

When the driver signaled she was not, Catrina quickly alerted her brother and other students.

Charlie, 14, sprang into action, taking the bus radio to contact the school for help.

“When I realized that something was going on, I went up there and grabbed the radio and then called the school because I knew that was the quickest way to get help,” Charlie shared.

Eighth-grader Kali also helped by guiding students to the back of the bus and calling 911.

The driver was taken to the hospital and later discharged, grateful for the students’ quick thinking.

The students had learned how to use the radio from their driver, information that proved vital.

Catrina said she feels “proud and happy with myself and happy that we got [the driver] all better now.”

Superintendent Jim Grubbs called the students’ actions “truly outstanding.”

“They remained calm, communicated clearly, and helped one another in a situation that could have been much worse,” Grubbs said. “Their families should be incredibly proud.”

Stories like this remind us how even the youngest among us can make a heroic difference when it matters most.
