He has been doing his job quite well, picking up dropped bats during games. But one particular match got him too excited that he couldn’t help but run onto the field!

The hardworking pup has been used to home games at Trenton Thunder Ballpark or Rider University’s Sonny Pittaro Field in New Jersey. So it was his first time at Sahlen Field in New York, home of the Buffalo Bisons.

It was during the Wednesday night game between the Buffalo Bisons and the Lehigh Valley IronPigs that Rookie’s excitement over a new area overcame him.

The match had to be paused temporarily as the players let Rookie run around the pitcher’s mound, tail wagging happily.

Rookie eventually found his way back to his beckoning handlers, but not before everyone cheered for him.

The lovable pup issued an adorable apology via Twitter the next morning.

“I want to apologize to my fren Cavan Biggio, for running out on the field last night during his at bat in the @BuffaloBisons game. I was just so excited to be retrieving bats again,” the post read. “I hope Cavan and @BlueJays are not mad at me. #sorry.”

Well, who couldn’t accept that apology?
