An engaging video capturing a first-time interaction between a pit bull puppy and a pet rat has been creating a sensation on the internet, receiving an impressive over 40 million views on Instagram. The captivating video, shared on the account @twogreek_dogs, invites us into the realm of Kronos, the curious pit bull puppy, as he explores his home before finally settling on a red blanket on the couch.

Just as he gets comfortable, he is joined by an unanticipated associate, a black rat named Remi who is almost the same size as the young canine.

A friendship kindles spontaneously as Remi cautiously steps over Kronos’s fluffy body, finding a secure spot underneath his chin. Brimming with soft affection, the video shows Kronos attentively grooming his new rodent friend. As per the explanation by a prominent animal charity, “puppies often lick or groom their siblings to strengthen their bond,” a heartwarming behavior that Kronos readily extends to Remi.

Despite being different species and not amongst America’s top favourite pets, the bond between the two validates that friendship transcends limitations. Pit bulls are frequently stereotyped as dangerous, a belief that animal welfare organizations combat by advocating for judging them individually.

Rats, conversely, are generally considered as carriers of diseases like salmonella and rat bite fever, thereby contributing to their lower popularity as pets. However, health departments nationwide hold that with a clean environment, the risk of diseases spreading can be minimized. This is worth considering as rats are also known for their intelligence and sociability.
