  • A mangled Jack-O-Lantern and a trail of pumpkin pieces alerted Amanda Quick to her pig Carlton’s “stealing” ways.
  • The pig loves pumpkins and he has been eating from the neighbors’ pumpkin displays.
  • They now have a pumpkin patch from all the seeds of his stolen pumpkins. Carlton doesn’t have to steal anymore.

Carlton the pig has always loved pumpkins.  But his stealing phase started when he got hold of a neighbor’s carved pumpkin.

Carlton’s mom, Amanda Quick said, “I came outside one morning and there was a mangled jack-o’-lantern on the porch with pieces of it trailing down the sidewalk.”  And the culprit, Carlton, was in their backyard.  He thought he got away with it not knowing that he left behind a trail of evidence and he was caught on camera!

After that, it was a pumpkin buffet for Carlton as he ravaged the neighbor’s pumpkin displays. Amanda had to find ways to keep the pig at home.

Amanda said, “It didn’t matter what I tried, changing locks, changing the leash. He was going to find a way to get out and get people’s pumpkins.”

But when Amanda apologized for Carlton’s misdeeds, she found out that the neighbors seemed amused by his antics and even offered him even more to feast on.

Amanda related, “The neighbors were incredibly kind about it.” She added, “Eventually, [they] started requesting Carlton come to their house and eat their pumpkins. They would even leave pumpkins on my porch overnight for Carlton to find when he woke up the next day.”

Soon there was an oversupply and so Amanda donated what Carlton could not eat to the Central Texas Pig Rescue.

She says that Carlton has a little twinkle in his eye when it is up to no good.  She believes that “He’s the reason the phrase ‘hamming it up’ exists.”

From all the pumpkins that Carlton has eaten, it is no surprise that a pumpkin patch has grown in their yard.  The problem is, Carlton eats the pumpkins even before they are ripe for harvesting!  Amanda has now partitioned the plants so that the fruits will have time to mature.

Now, Carlton does not have to steal from the neighbors.
