Chris and Cassie Evins found themselves in a tense moment at Worlds of Fun when shouts erupted from the seat behind them on the Mamba roller coaster.

Chris shared,

“I assumed it was her first time on the ride, and then she said, ‘My seatbelt came undone!’”

Recognizing the urgency, the couple responded immediately. Chris hugged the lap bar and gripped the girl’s wrist for the rest of the ride, while Cassie helped secure her legs in place.

“Seventy-two miles an hour, holding onto somebody. It’s terrifying,”

Cassie recalled.

The girls riding with them were understandably frightened, but the Evins kept them calm and confident throughout the ordeal.

The coaster ride ended safely, and everyone involved was unharmed. Chris later reflected,

“My whole thought after the incident was, what if it had been someone else in our seats? You know, they could have had a drastically different outcome.”

Worlds of Fun acted swiftly, closing the ride and conducting a thorough safety inspection before allowing guests back on. The spokesperson explained,

“The safety of our guests and team members is a top priority. The ride has undergone a comprehensive safety review, and we’ve implemented modifications requested by the Fire Marshal to ensure it meets or exceeds all applicable safety standards.”

Although Chris and Cassie love the park, they’ve chosen to take a break—grateful they could help when it mattered most.
