The internet was deeply moved by the story of Franny, a rescue dog who had no idea that her sad return to the shelter was just the beginning of a beautiful surprise.

Franny had spent over four months at the shelter, with the last two in quarantine battling heartworm.

During this time, Danielle Baughman, a dedicated volunteer at the New Kensington, Pennsylvania shelter, would visit Franny daily to keep her company.

“She would get very sad when that was over, and she had to go back to being alone,” Baughman shared.

Once Franny’s quarantine ended, she enjoyed a day out with another volunteer, Lindsey.

The day was filled with fun activities, including a baseball practice and a pool party.

However, Franny’s joy turned to sorrow as they returned to the shelter.

“When they pulled into the shelter, Franny’s head hung so low. The volunteer cried all night thinking about how sad she was,” Baughman recounted.

Lindsey, who was deeply affected by Franny’s sadness, returned the next day to take her home for a sleepover.

Franny was “so well behaved and perfect,” leading Lindsey to realize that she had found her forever home.

“She took her back to the shelter and recorded her pulling in. Franny’s head hung low again because she didn’t know she was getting adopted,” Baughman explained.

Lindsey remains an active “doggie day out volunteer” and continues to update the shelter staff on Franny’s progress.

Baughman, who spent a lot of time with Franny, is particularly grateful for these updates.

Baughman also uses her social media platforms to raise awareness for shelter animals and to show how loving rescue dogs can be.

She shared a clip of Franny on TikTok (@all_dee_aminals), capturing the moment Franny thought she was returning to the shelter for good, only to find out she was being adopted.

The video went viral, amassing over 72,900 views and more than 7,800 likes in just a few days.

“The social media attention to my page has been so great for these shelter dogs. One of my videos got a dog adopted from several states away,” Baughman said.

“The shelter’s doggie day out program has been amazing. I focus on the dogs who have been there a long time, including one who has been there for four years. I find out what they’re like outside of the kennel and I love to show their real personalities in these videos in the hopes that someone will give them a chance.”

Baughman hopes that Franny’s story will inspire more people to consider adopting shelter dogs and giving them a second chance at happiness.
