  • Owner of Nighttown restaurant in Cleveland, Ohio, was stunned to receive a huge tip on the last day of his store.
  • He scheduled to temporarily close his store on Nov. 22 due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in their state.
  • The tip was a whopping $3,000 on top of the customer’s $7.02 bill for the purchase of a single beer!

The owner of a restaurant in Cleveland was stunned by the huge tip a customer left for him and his employees. It was a whopping $3,000 on top of his $7.02 bill!

Brendan Ring, who manages his own restaurant named Nighttown, was “humbly grateful” for the huge amount they received on Nov. 22, especially that he planned on closing the store temporarily amidst the challenges of COVID-19 pandemic.

“Unbelievable but symbolic of the kind of quality folks we have [come to] know at Nighttown all these years,” he said in a post on Facebook along with the photo of the receipt. “All my wait staff and myself [are] humbly grateful for this incredibly kind and grand gesture.”

Nighttown was actually doing quite well with the incredible support of their community. But because of the increasing number of COVID-19 infections in Ohio, Brendan told WEWS he had no choice but to close it down at least for the meantime.

He announced this sad news on Facebook and just before the closing time on Nov. 22, a patron came in and ordered a single beer.

Then he asked for the bill and handed Brendan his credit card together with well wishes, and that he should share the tip amongst his employees.

“As he walked out, I looked down at the tip and realized he left a whopping $3000 tip on a single beer purchase,” Brendan said. “I ran after him and he said, ‘No mistake, we will see you when you reopen!’”

At first his employees wouldn’t believe him because they knew he likes to make pranks. But as soon as they realized it was legit, they couldn’t believe it! Each of his four staff that day went home with $750 in their pockets.

For Heather Snow, one of the staff, the gesture was more than just about money — it’s also about unselfishness and that their customers for years do truly care for them too.

“If this was a normal year, yeah, this would be a good story, but it’s a great story because of the year we’re in. The outpouring of love for this story has been universal,” Brandon told CNN.
