  • Two sanitation workers were able to save a little girl’s life after they spotted a suspicious vehicle along their work route.
  • They immediately contacted the police and even blocked off the kidnapper’s escape route with their truck.
  • The girl was rescued and the culprit is now being held without bond.

A young girl was saved in the nick of time thanks to two sanitation workers, Dion Merrick and Brandon Antoine.

Dion and Brandon were on their trash pickup route in Louisiana when they spotted a silver car in the middle of the field. They immediately knew it was suspicious.

Dion said, “Something told me … I said, what’s that car doing off in the field like that?”

The car suspiciously looked like the gray 2012 Nissan Altima that was shown in an Amber alert for a 10-year-old girl who was abducted from a family member’s home the previous day.

So the two sanitation workers quickly informed the authorities and made sure to block the kidnapper’s escape route with their garbage truck.

The little girl’s life was ultimately saved thanks to their quick actions. An acquaintance of the girl’s family member, 33-year-old Michael Sereal, had abducted her.

Sereal had previously been convicted for carnal knowledge of a juvenile and is listed on a sex offender database. He is now held without bond and charged with aggravated kidnapping of a child and failure to register as a sex offender. There is still an ongoing investigation.

Dion, who is also a father, said, “I just thank God for letting me see and realize that car. They got the guy. The little girl was on the back seat safe. Thank God she was alive and everything.”

The two workers’ employer, Pelican Waste & Debris, has commended them for their actions.
