  • Her recovery is progressing well, and she shared her new voice with fans.
  • Support from viewers continues as she plans her return to the Today Show.

Savannah Guthrie underwent a successful procedure in early 2026 to address vocal nodules and a throat polyp. She shared her absence plans during a December Today Show broadcast, reassuring viewers with her signature humor.

“Some of you have noticed that my voice has been very scratchy and started to crack a little bit like Peter Brady, who was going through a change,” Savannah said with a laugh.

After a period of total vocal rest and lots of whiteboard communication, Savannah updated fans with positive progress. Two weeks after surgery, she was already beginning to recover.

During the January 20 broadcast, Savannah’s “new voice” made its debut.

“I am still on vocal rest, but I’m allowed to talk for five to 10 minutes every hour,”

“This is my new voice or my old voice, but my new voice.”

Savannah said.

She was relieved and optimistic about the outcome.

“I think the good news is that it worked!”

“And Sheinelle knows, she went through this and had this surgery, it’s kind of a slow recovery. You’re allowed to talk, and if you talk too much, which is a real risk for me,”

“You start to feel it, so you just have to take it easy.”

She said.

Fans were thrilled by Savannah’s update.

We look forward to more mornings with Savannah’s bright presence and wish her continued healing!
