Savannah Guthrie revealed to viewers that she will soon have surgery to address vocal nodules and a polyp after noticing persistent hoarseness.

She explained her voice issues on TODAY, referencing a lighthearted “Brady Bunch” moment featuring a character’s changing voice.

“Well, I have found out what it is. I have vocal nodules, and now I also have a polyp. It’s not a big, big deal, but I am going to have a surgery real early in the new year and be off for a couple of weeks. So it’s my last day for a little while. So I just want to let everyone know, and if you’ve been wondering, do I have the world’s longest head cold? No, I don’t.”

She shared with her co-hosts that the recovery means a few weeks of total silence, joking, “Christmas coming early for my family.”

Fellow host Sheinelle Jones, who had a similar surgery, reassured Savannah, “The silver lining is you have permission to be still. The house gets quiet. The kids are going to want to help you out.”

Savannah laughed about using a dry erase board to parent her kids during her recovery.

Sheinelle offered more support: “It’ll be great. You’ll be fine.”

Craig Melvin added, “Prayers for healing and recovery.”

Savannah is looking forward to the procedure and the hope it brings for her voice. “I’m really excited about it. This has been going on for years, honestly,” she said. Sheinelle playfully suggested that Savannah could come back singing like Celine Dion.

“It’s really funny. I used to be able to sing, and then I couldn’t sing anymore, and then I couldn’t speak anymore, so who knows?” said Savannah.

Over the years, Savannah has been open about her health journey, including a successful recovery from several eye surgeries after a significant injury in 2019.
