School Therapy Dog Nails Her Yearbook Photo

  • Schools are now “employing” therapy dogs as aids to learning and to take care of the mental health of the school’s students, faculty, and staff.
  • A two-year-old Golden Retriever named Meg has been working every school day at the Goshen Middle School in Ohio.
  • As a valuable part of the school, she had her own picture taken for the school’s yearbook and she nailed it.

In these trying times, the help of a therapy dog is badly needed.  Having therapy dogs in schools can certainly relieve students’ and teachers’ stressful lives and bring a smile to their faces.

One lucky school is Goshen Middle School in Ohio which has a 2-year-old golden retriever called Meg who brings sunshine into their lives.

Since graduating from training at Circle Trail, Inc as a pup, Meg has been on duty at the school.  Off duty, she lives with a trained facility dog handler, seventh-grade math teacher Kelly DeNu.

Each grade level gets to spend time with Meg including special education classes and the autism units.  She is available anytime for mental health appointments.  Lunchtime is spent with the teachers whose welfare she also caters to.

100% of the students have already been introduced to Meg and 85% of classroom teachers have had Meg in their classrooms.  What she does is interact with the students or participate in their lessons.

She has contributed to the mental well-being of all the people in school.  And so, when students, faculty and staff had their photo session for the school yearbook, Meg also got her own.

And Meg’s handlers could not help but gush at her cuteness.  On Meg’s Instagram page, they posted Meg’s photo together with the caption: “Results are in!!! I think I nailed my yearbook photo!! What do you think?”
