In early 2025, popular pizza chain Papa Johns announced a strategic plan to optimize up to 300 stores across the country. The brand is focusing on strengthening its most successful locations to better serve customers.

According to reports, Papa Johns closed 44 locations across 17 states as part of this optimization effort. Texas saw the most adjustments, with 12 locations transitioning.

The company identified stores generating less than $600,000 in annual sales volume for restructuring. This data-driven approach aims to redirect resources where they can make the biggest positive impact for customers and franchise owners alike.

“We believe these closures will further strengthen the system, increasing AUVs by at least 3 percent and improve franchisee health by allowing franchisees to reallocate resources towards operational excellence in their remaining restaurants and open units in priority markets,” Papa Johns CFO Ravi Thanawala said.

The strategic consolidation represents a smart business move focused on quality over quantity. By concentrating resources in high-performing markets, franchisees can deliver even better service and product quality to loyal customers.
