A pooch named Darcy knows a thing or two about making an entrance. This adorable Shih Tzu outshone her owner on a day most would consider strictly human-centric – a wedding day.

Gone are the days when inviting your dog to a wedding seemed bizarre. According to a recent survey, approximately 66% out of 2,000 dog owners would happily include their furry friends in their wedding day plans.

Pets, it appears, can don a variety of hats on this special day. The poll reported ring bearer (50 percent), flower girl (17 percent), and page boy (13 percent) as popular roles for dogs during weddings. Some owners even contemplated their dogs as best man, ensuring a rather memorable wedding speech.

However, very few canines have had the honor of the starring role Darcy the Shih Tzu had at the wedding of her owner Sophie Nunn and her long-term partner Ryan.

Sophie provided some background on Darcy, stating, “We were living in Australia with Ryan’s mom. She took in a rescue dog, a golden Shih Tzu, and after spending time with them during COVID in lockdown, it didn’t take long to fall in love with her and the breed.”

When they returned to the U.K. post-pandemic, they got Darcy, who has been living the life of luxury ever since. Sophie remarked, “She has a love/hate relationship with walking, as with most things, it’s all on her terms. She has multiple toy boxes in different rooms of the house as she loves to play, frequently bursts into zoomies, chases after balls, birds and squirrels.”

When the couple tied the knot at Wickerwood Farm in East Sussex on August 3, there was never a question about Darcy’s involvement in the ceremony.

The wedding was overseen by celebrant Roxy Hayde, which allowed them to incorporate Darcy in a unique way. Darcy, dressed in a white gown, cruised down the aisle in a remote-controlled car just before the bride’s entrance.

Sophie revealed that the idea came from seeing their niece in a small electric car. The grand entrance, which turned heads and brought smiles, was caught on camera and later shared on social media.

Darcy’s show-stopping entrance required a modicum of behind-the-scenes work. “Darcy took to sitting in the car like a fish to water,” said Sophie.

The performance was slightly nerve-wracking, but with a few reassuring cuddles and praises, Darcy was ready to make her grand entrance. After her well-deserved moment in the spotlight, Darcy curled up for a nap next to Sophie’s wedding dress.

Darcy’s grand entrance added sparkle to Sophie and Ryan’s special day. “People are still talking about it. She got all the giggles and wahoos and really set the ceremony off how we wanted,” Sophie said.

When asked if she’d recommend others to involve their pets in their ceremony, Sophie responded with a resounding “100 percent do it.” Including your pet in one of the biggest moments of your life can bring an unforgettable layer of joy.
