Smart Possum Tricks A Woman That He’s One Of Her Cats [Video]

  • Possum decides that it wants to be a member of the MacLaughlin community.
  • The possum has moved in, eats the cats’ food, and even uses their litter box.
  • The possum either thinks it’s a cat or the cats think it is one of them.

What started as a sneaky way to a woman’s house, ended in a possum getting accepted as a member of the community.

The possum first made its presence with a brush on Maura McLaughlin’s fingers while she was sleeping.  Thinking that it was strange and it was not any of her cats, she just brushed it aside and transferred to sleep in the living room.

The morning after she learned that it was a possum as, “One of the artists who’s living in my daughter’s room came in and said, ‘I had the cutest baby possum in my bedroom this morning. “I just scooped it up and put it outside and said, ‘hello,’” MacLaughlin recalled.

But six months after, MacLaughlin said, “I heard this new sound, and I was like, ‘That is not my cats, that’s not a raccoon, what is slurping at the water bowl?’”

That is when she saw the possum who was having a go at her cats’ food. And even with gentle prodding to go out, it clearly did not want to.

McLaughlin said, “What I ended up doing was giving up and giving in to the fact that they are here — they were born here under my house. These are just little community members.”

The possum abides by the rules of the house: use the litter box if you eat the cat food. MacLaughlin’s cats do not find the possum strange and even share their food and litter box with it.  Maybe they think it’s a cat or the possum thinks it’s a cat.

However, McLaughlin now worries if she does not get to see the possum for days.  That is how the possum has sneakily entrenched itself in the happy little community.
