  • Geoff Stewart turned his childhood memory of receiving one special toy into a large toy drive for families in need.
  • The United Samaritan Services of Vernon offered over 400 toys and choice of a blanket or stuffed animal to local children.
  • Stewart hopes to create lasting memories for kids, inspired by his own cherished toy, Rambo.

A cherished gift from childhood now inspires giving on a grand scale in Vernon, Texas. Geoff Stewart, who received a single plush dog as a child, leads an annual toy drive to ensure today’s children experience that same special joy.

This year’s event welcomed hundreds of families, offering more than 400 toys as well as cozy blankets and stuffed animals. Children also had the chance to meet Santa and the Grinch, making their holiday extra magical.

Stewart’s earliest Christmas memory is receiving his beloved toy, Rambo, as a two-year-old. Raised by a single mother, that used stuffed animal provided comfort and companionship through the years.

“This is the only toy I got that year for Christmas. I’m 42 years old and I still got him. He went everywhere with me and he was my best friend. It can change a lot for a kid – one gift. And it don’t have to be much. It was a used stuffed animal that I got.”

The event saw families lining up before doors opened, and Stewart felt deeply rewarded by the smiles and excitement of each child.

“Seeing the brightness in their eyes when they pick out a toy — and knowing that if even 100 of the 300 kids who come through find their own ‘Rambo,’ then I’ve done something,” he shared.

Thanks to the generosity of local donors and volunteers, the toy drive brought hope and warmth to the community.
