This makeup influencer is bringing diversity to the beauty industry [Video]

  • Hannah Tyre was born with osteogenesis imperfecta which makes her bones extremely fragile.
  • She discovered her love for makeup when she was only a child.
  • She now has 1 million TikTok followers.

Hannah Tyre’s 1 million TikTok followers alone are helping the beauty business in becoming a more diverse and welcoming space.

Hannah was diagnosed with osteogenesis imperfecta as a child. The bones are affected by this hereditary condition, making them extremely fragile. As a result, the 27-year-old is confined to a wheelchair.

“My bones lack collagen, and so they’re very fragile,” Hannah explained. “I actually fractured my arm last Friday. So I kind of have dealt with fractures and surgeries and asthma and other different little things to do with my disability.”

Hannah’s condition has caused problems, but it hasn’t stopped her from following her passion for makeup, which she discovered as a child.

Hannah claims that her mother began selling Avon when she was a child, and she began accompanying her to all of the small meetings where she would try her lipsticks and eyeshadows.

Hannah received a large beauty kit for Christmas when she was 12 years old. She was able to use it to launch her own YouTube channel, like the other beauty influencers she watched.

Her platform has expanded beyond YouTube and into something much larger since then! Hannah’s content raises awareness of her impairment while also demonstrating that you don’t have to look a specific way to feel beautiful.

When Hannah was growing up, she didn’t see many women, or anyone, with disabilities, in the media.

“So I kind of wanted to do something to show people with disabilities that you can do this, too. I think it’s really awesome that the beauty industry is becoming more diverse and really showcasing different types of beauty … and I’m proud to somewhat have a little part to do with it,” she added.
