Veteran Sets Record Climbing All Seven Summits

Quick Smiles:
- Hari Budha Magar is the first above-the-knee double amputee to summit the tallest peaks on every continent.
- He overcame severe injuries, mental health struggles, and societal barriers to achieve his dream.
- Hari’s journey inspires greater disability awareness and supports charities for veterans and people with disabilities.
British war veteran Hari Budha Magar has made history as the first above-the-knee double amputee to reach the highest peaks on all seven continents.
His journey culminated with a three-day climb up Antarctica’s Mount Vinson, where frigid temperatures and challenging conditions pushed him to his limits.
“The conditions and difficulty meant that I was literally crawling on all fours, battling my way up the mountain.”
Despite the immense challenge, Hari found hope in the breathtaking Antarctic views as he persevered to the summit.
“A disability shouldn’t limit the size of your dream, or your ability to achieve it.”
After losing his legs in Afghanistan, Hari faced years of recovery but discovered new purpose through adventure sports and mountaineering.
His passion led him to break barriers, including challenging a ban on climbers with disabilities in Nepal so he could climb Everest.
Over six years, he conquered the Seven Summits—starting with Mount Blanc and culminating with Mount Vinson—while raising awareness for disability and veterans’ causes.
To reach his goals, Hari collaborated with prosthetics experts and para-jumpers to innovate equipment tailored for extreme conditions.
He has been honored for his resilience and charity work, earning recognition at The Pride of Britain and being named a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).
“That IED should have killed me, but now I had a second chance and wanted to do something positive, and be an inspiration to others.”
“If I had the opportunity to bring my legs back today, I would actually decline because my mission in life is now to help, inspire and empower others.”
Hari continues to advocate for greater inclusion, proving with each summit that possibility expands when support and adaptation come together.
Share this remarkable achievement with friends and family to help spread Hari’s message of courage and hope!
