What Police Uncovered During One Senior’s Missed Wellness Call

A wellness check in Westlake, Ohio, took a delightful turn when officers discovered why a resident missed her daily check-in call. Instead of an emergency, they found a 91-year-old woman completely focused on her favorite video game.

The city’s “Are You Okay?” program typically ensures the safety of seniors through regular phone contact. When the woman failed to answer both the automated call and her daughter, local police were dispatched to the scene immediately.

“Everyone’s a little bit alarmed that she’s missing these contacts,”

said Westlake Police Captain Jerry Vogel.

Officers used an access code to enter the home after noticing her car was still in the garage. They soon realized the quiet house was actually the site of an intense gaming session.

“We’re here with her,”

an officer reported back to dispatch.

“She’s playing video games in her bedroom.”

The dedicated gamer was so absorbed in beating her personal record that she never heard the phone or the commotion outside. Her passion for her hobby provided a joyful relief to her family and the responding officers.
