Wholesome Patriotic Moment Will Unite Every American Time Zone in One Day

Quick Smiles:
- The iconic Times Square Ball will drop eight times on July 4, 2026 — one for each American time zone
- This historic celebration marks America’s 250th birthday and will create a nearly 24-hour coast-to-coast party
- From Guam to American Samoa, every corner of America gets to share in this once-in-a-lifetime moment of unity
Every December 31, roughly 1 million people gather in New York City to witness the iconic Times Square Ball drop at midnight. It’s a tradition that has marked the beginning of each new year for generations of Americans.
But on July 4, 2026, something extraordinary is happening. As the United States celebrates its 250th birthday, America250 has planned an unprecedented celebration that will bring the entire nation together in a way we’ve never experienced before.
For the first time in history, the Times Square Ball will drop eight times in one day — beginning on July 3 and continuing through July 4. Each drop will mark midnight in a different American time zone, creating a rolling wave of patriotic celebration that sweeps across the entire country.
According to a news release from America250, this will be the first time the Times Square Ball has ever dropped in July. The event will mirror the excitement and tradition of New Year’s Eve, but with a uniquely American twist.
“For the first time in history, the Times Square Ball will drop not once, but eight times — marking midnight in every American time zone, each with its own special Ball design, beginning in Guam and culminating in American Samoa — creating a nearly 24-hour celebration as the nation counts down to its 250th birthday,” America250 explained.
The celebration kicks off at 10:00 a.m. EDT with the first Ball Drop for the Chamorro Time Zone, covering the American territories of Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. From there, the celebration rolls across Puerto Rico and the continental United States, building momentum with special moments and musical performances.
The signature New York City countdown will take place at 11:59 p.m. EDT, followed by drops for Central Time, Mountain Time, Pacific Time, Alaska Time, and Hawaii-Aleutian Time. The final ball drop will occur at 7:00 a.m. EDT for American Samoa, completing a full circle of patriotic celebration.
Rosie Rios, chair of America250, captured the spirit of what makes this celebration so special.
“This is more than a countdown. It’s a moment that brings the entire country together, one time zone at a time,” she said.
“From Guam to New York to Alaska to American Samoa, we are creating a shared experience where every American can see themselves in this celebration and be part of something bigger than any one city or moment.”
What a beautiful way to honor our nation’s milestone birthday — ensuring that every American, no matter where they live, gets to be part of this historic moment. This is the kind of unity and patriotic joy that makes America truly special.
