“Love is pushing the grocery cart.”

Heather Delaney is one grateful wife to her husband. She shared that love is not just about the grand, sweep-me-off-my-feet gestures, but also the littlest of things that make every single day always worth the while.

Now a viral Facebook post, Heather’s post shared the many ways in which her husband makes her feel loved like no other.

She shared how it took her a long time to accept the truth that love doesn’t always look like the movies — the kind that flaunts all the expensive things: flowers, chocolates, romantic meals, and surprise getaways.

“I was disappointed time and time again, all because I was looking for the ways that I was being told he should show his love, instead of paying attention to how he actually does show his love.” Heather shared.

She then realized that love is also about the mundane things: checking up on her, making her coffee on a lazy day, running errands for her, and whatnot.

“And when I eventually came to that realization, that was the game changer. For he rarely buys flowers, but he calls me every day when he gets off of work, to see if I need anything picked up. He never thinks of buying chocolate, but whenever he sees anything that resembles a slice of plant-based, organic goodness, he always buys it for me — and is always so proud to surprise me with his latest grocery store find,” she said.

According to Heather, her husband is not the grand-gesture-kind-of-guy, but his efforts surely sweep her off her feet and warm her heart.

“He has sat in Broadway with me to watch a musical. He has walked through Ernest Hemingway’s home with me. He has been through more museums and libraries in a lifetime than he cares to admit, and he has never complained about any of it,” she continued. “He’s gotten up in the middle of the night with a crying baby.”

But to her, it’s so much more than that.

Heather appreciates that her husband puts her comfort and happiness over his own. “He’s watched ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ when he would rather be watching ‘Jason Bourne,’” and he’s done pharmacy runs for her “lady products,” which he knows by heart. When they eat out, he would gladly switch plates with her if what he ordered is better than hers.

Heather ended her sweet tribute by reminding everyone that “flowers wither, chocolates are consumed, but it is in the small, simple moments that you can depend on where love is truly found.”

“Search not for the flowers, nor the chocolates. Rather search for the one who will push your grocery cart,” Heather said.
