  • Amy Gaudette has created a Christmas Tree with 24 jars of different treats for the neighborhood local pups.
  • Gaudette’s place, Oshawa Puppy Café, has been sharing dog-safe treats for free since the COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020.
  • The café has been the venue for dog meetups after their walks, photoshoots and charity and adoption events.

The four-legged locals of a Toronto neighborhood in Canada not only have their walks to look forward to but treats as well from their friendly neighbor Amy Gaudette.

Amy has created a giant Advent calendar with 24 jars filled with treats at their house.  And every dog who passes by can take canine-approved and dog-friendly treats for free!

Each jar has a different treat.  It even has a list of ingredients so that dogs with allergies can avoid the treats with allergens.

So far, Amy estimates that around 10,000 delightful treats have already been consumed by the canine visitors.

The COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020 inspired Amy to set up a tree stand to spread kindness to others.  In time, the four-pawed visitors started converging at her house and that is when she named her place, Oshawa Puppy Café.

Amy shared, “At first I think my neighbors were a little confused as to why there were free dog treats at the end of our driveway.”  She added, “But over time, more and more people found out about us and it became a place to always visit while on a walk with their dogs. The dogs now know what our café is and pull their owners to our house!”

The café became a fixture for dogs to drop by before heading home after their walks. Amy thought that creating an Instagram account where her pups and parents could tag her with their pictures at the café would be good to keep her updated.  And true enough, it became a beautiful album of pups wearing smiles on their faces.

And the cafe evolved to not just a treat-giving café but also a venue for photoshoots like Valentine’s Day “Free Kisses”.  It also became a charity and adoption events place.

Amy said, “I’ve been very fortunate to use our café in such a positive light.” [We’ve] helped dogs find their forever homes.”

The smiles on the faces of the dogs are what make it all worthwhile for Amy.  The Advent calendar may just be for this season but because it is such a hit, it will have a comeback next holiday season.

Thank you, Amy!
