In a video shared under the handle b_heather90, this pet parent, who is the proud owner of five dogs, reveals her unique approach to ensuring her pets get the best sleep possible.

“Dogs should sleep anywhere from 10 to 14 hours during the day on average,” says Amy Stone, a clinical associate professor at the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine. This is significantly more than the seven to nine hours their human counterparts typically get at night.

Stone adds, “Dogs listen to their bodies more than humans do. When the signals to the brain tell them to sleep, they do.” Thus, it’s crucial to provide them with the most comfortable space for their extended slumbers.

While some dog owners might opt for a luxurious dog bed, b_heather90’s video suggests an alternative. She advises against spending more on a dog bed that will “rip and tear” and likely last just a “few months.”

Instead, she recommends heading to the “baby section” and purchasing a baby mattress. According to her, these mattresses are not only likely cheaper but also come with a protective covering. This makes it “easy to wipe clean” and, when fitted with a sheet, results in a “more durable” dog bed.
