A woman, known for her love of dogs, has shared a clever trick on TikTok that has caught the attention of pet owners worldwide. She believes she has discovered the most affordable and comfortable sleeping solution for our furry friends.

In a video shared under the handle b_heather90, this pet parent, who is the proud owner of five dogs, reveals her unique approach to ensuring her pets get the best sleep possible.

“Dogs should sleep anywhere from 10 to 14 hours during the day on average,” says Amy Stone, a clinical associate professor at the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine. This is significantly more than the seven to nine hours their human counterparts typically get at night.

Stone adds, “Dogs listen to their bodies more than humans do. When the signals to the brain tell them to sleep, they do.” Thus, it’s crucial to provide them with the most comfortable space for their extended slumbers.

While some dog owners might opt for a luxurious dog bed, b_heather90’s video suggests an alternative. She advises against spending more on a dog bed that will “rip and tear” and likely last just a “few months.”

Instead, she recommends heading to the “baby section” and purchasing a baby mattress. According to her, these mattresses are not only likely cheaper but also come with a protective covering. This makes it “easy to wipe clean” and, when fitted with a sheet, results in a “more durable” dog bed.

The video has since gone viral, amassing over 1.8 million views. Viewers have flooded the comments section with their thoughts on this innovative workaround.

“This is so brilliant. I’m embarrassed I didn’t think of this,” one viewer confessed. Another lamented, “The amount of money I’ve spent on dog beds for my babies is ridiculous…doing this ASAP.”

However, not everyone was convinced. Some viewers shared their unsuccessful attempts at implementing the hack. “My dogs LOATHE the mattress crib! Waste of money,” one viewer commented.

Others, however, had found success with the idea. “I actually use a crib mattress in my dog’s crate,” one user shared. Another added, “No one realizes that our pets are giant toddlers and should be treated like one, all my minions have toddler beds.”

Some viewers even shared their enhancements to the TikToker’s idea. “Just a tip! But try to get the quilted waterproof covers to add some more protection otherwise their nails rip the plastic cover on the mattress over time… this helps cushion their nails against it,” one suggested.
