Quick Smiles:

  • 13-year-old Ryan Hulance recycled 1.5 million aluminum cans.
  • Raised $20,000 entirely donated to charities like foodbanks.
  • Dedicates 20 hours weekly while balancing school.

A determined 13-year-old from Solihull, England, launched a recycling drive to support foodbanks and protect the environment.

Ryan collects cans from businesses, starting with hundreds weekly in 2023, as his parents helped by crushing them to save space.

Last year alone, eight tons of cans brought in $7,300 for a women’s charity, paid similarly to US scrap rates.

His efforts earned an industrial crusher, boosting efficiency for larger collections.

“Sometimes I think I’d rather be playing video games with my friends, because I’m 13 years old,” Ryan shared.

“But actually when I think about it more deeply, I really love what I do because I get to help people and families who are in need.”

“We are very proud of Ryan and really want to help him expand,” said mom Karima.

“The cans come from around 200 regular suppliers but we want to broaden that to many thousands. For the last three months we have recycled one ton per month but we are capable of much much more.”
