A Puppy and A Tortoise’s Sibling Love [Video]

  • A tortoise’s life changed when he was adopted into a loving home where he has grown and bloomed.
  • A rescue puppy was introduced to the tortoise and they formed an instant connection.
  • They are now an odd couple, with the tortoise as the patient big brother and the puppy as the mischievous younger brother.

When you introduce a new family member to older ones in the family, there’s always doubt and fear if they would get along well. But for a sulcata tortoise and a puppy, it was love at first smell.

Tilly G the tortoise had a rough start in life. He was found by the Humane Society of Los Angeles, sick with a life-threatening respiratory infection, underweight, and with a cracked shell.

Once he was adopted into a paradise haven in Santa Monica, California, the sickly tortoise bloomed. He now weighs 30 pounds more and even has his own little cedar house. His family has also expanded to include cats and dogs.

Even with his development, the family was still apprehensive as to how Tilly G would react to a new puppy member, Skippy.

But with just an exchange of sniffs from each other, Tilly did not retreat into his shell but instead, the two hit it off like old friends.

The two have become an odd couple and are inseparable!

The couple’s bond grows stronger each day that the two are together. Skippy even starts his day by rushing to Tilly G.

They may be polar opposites but Tilly G’s patience with Skippy’s constant stalking makes the relationship work.

Here’s what Tilly has to put up with: Skippy insisting on eating whatever he is having; crawling into his little house, and jumping on his kiddie pool for a swim!

But Tilly is having fun and so is Skippy. Together, they prove that love is not skin deep. Love can exist between different species: one with fur, and one with scales.

As their human mama describes it: “Love is love, and it doesn’t matter who you are, or where you came from, or what your differences are. And it probably sounds really cheesy, but we really need that right now.”
