The arrival of Roar Larsen and Trude Tokle, who fell in love with the island during an unexpected stopover, marked the beginning of Myken’s revival. They chose to stay, took part in every role necessary, and brainstormed new ways to bring prosperity to their adopted home.

“Three days were enough for us to fall in love with Myken. The sky, the sea and the people,” says Tokle.

Despite wild weather and long winters, the islanders’ unbreakable bond has inspired imaginative endeavors like launching a whisky distillery, which is now acclaimed worldwide. Everyone chips in, ensuring the school, shop, and lighthouse endure for years to come.
