Good Morning America spoke to Barry Manilow about his cancer in an interview that aired on June 1. In a preview clip, Barry said that he’s doing “good.”

But the 82-year-old legend admitted that cancer treatment wasn’t what he anticipated.

“It took longer than I thought it was going to take to get past this lung cancer thing. I didn’t know about pneumonia. I was in ICU for seven days because they couldn’t grasp this pneumonia that was just about killing me.”

Barry Manilow also said that his cancer journey was “terrifying.” He worried, “this may be goodbye.”

But now, he feels hopeful about his future and has even released a new single. The legendary performer is proving that resilience and determination can carry us through even the darkest times.
