Quick Smiles:

  • Two kittens, Gelato and Sorbet, were born without one of their front legs each and need a home together.
  • The playful siblings are deeply bonded and brighten every room with their loving companionship.
  • Helen Woodward Animal Center is caring for them and searching for a special adopter.

Gelato and Sorbet, two charming kittens missing opposite front legs, are showing everyone just how sweet life can be when you have a friend by your side. The brother and sister pair are deeply connected, often found snuggled together or playing as a perfect team.

Helen Woodward Animal Center in California rescued the duo from an overburdened shelter, giving them a second chance at a happy life.

“Snuggled closer than most, due to each missing a matching opposite leg,” the shelter shared.

According to Jessica Gercke from the center, “Ninety-five percent of the animals that come to Helen Woodward Animal Center come us from overburdened shelters where euthanasia is a very real possibility.”

She added, “We have rescue partners all over the country who send us pets that are on a time clock. In particular, baby animals, who need months of medical care before they are ready for adoption, or special-needs animals, who may take a longer time to place, are top of the list.”

Gelato and Sorbet have quickly charmed everyone with their funny, playful personalities and strong attachment to each other.

“They are extremely funny, playful and social. They also adore each other. We are requiring that they be adopted together as they have comfortably settled into a true bond of equals who play with one front paw each,” Gercke said.

Since each kitten relies on a single front leg, their future family will need to provide a few special accommodations to keep them healthy and happy. The shelter encourages adopters to keep them indoors, use steps and shorter scratching posts, and ensure any canine friends are gentle and cat-friendly.

“This can lead to exhaustion or pain with overuse and would certainly put them in danger if they ever got outside,” Gercke explained.

“A home familiar with cats and willing to provide some simple accommodations to keep them healthy and happy is our goal,” she emphasized. “Obviously, if there are any dogs in the home, the dogs should be extremely cat-friendly and gentle.”

Thanks to the compassion of the Helen Woodward Animal Center, Gelato and Sorbet now have a bright future ahead—and they are ready to bring joy to the perfect forever home.

Could you be the caring friend these kittens have been wishing for?
