With a ranking of 1,173 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, Vogt’s journey to the championship seems almost cinematic.

Last weekend, he shot an impressive 8-under par to win the U.S. Open’s Final Qualifying tournament in Washington state. This victory secured him a spot in the national championship, bringing him back to his roots.

The timing of this achievement is especially poignant, as Vogt’s father passed away just two months ago. During the qualifying round, he wore a ribbon on his hat to honor his father’s memory.

“I told you I was going to try not to cry,” Vogt shared. “We stayed present all day. I knew I could do this. I knew I could do it.”

Reflecting on the significance of Oakmont and Pittsburgh, Vogt added, “Having grown up in Pittsburgh and caddied there, it took every ounce of energy in my body not to think about that all day.”

“I was looking up to the skies, and I knew he was with me,” Vogt said. “I wish he was here to share it with me, but I know he’s watching.”

Vogt, who played college golf at Butler University in Indiana, had to navigate through local qualifying earlier in the spring. He then went on to win this year’s Indianapolis Open.

To secure his place in the U.S. Open, he needed to finish at least second in the Qualifying at Walla Walla, Washington. Against all odds, he emerged victorious.

In a few days, Vogt will walk onto the Oakmont course, not as a caddy dreaming of playing, but as a competitor in the U.S. Open.

“I will soak up every single second of that week,” Vogt expressed. “It’s just a dream come true.”
