Introducing pets to new experiences is often encouraged to help them adapt to different environments and sounds. Athena Palmer, a foster mom, decided to involve her senior golden retriever, Lincoln, in this process with her foster kittens.

Palmer, known on TikTok as @rescuesandremodels, recently brought home a mother cat and her eight newborn kittens from an animal shelter in Rapid City, South Dakota. She has been gradually introducing the kittens to various “scary things” to prepare them for adoption.

When the kittens were about five weeks old, Palmer decided it was time for them to meet Lincoln.

“My dogs have always watched them from a distance through the baby gate since they were brought home at one day old,” she explained.

In a TikTok video posted on October 17, Lincoln is seen calmly sitting as the kittens curiously observe him. He remained the “most patient boy” as some kittens fluffed up with nerves.

Among the kittens, one named Kishu bravely approached Lincoln.

Kishu used his paws to touch Lincoln’s nose and, feeling safe, nestled between Lincoln’s front legs.

This marked the beginning of a charming friendship.

While the kittens are still growing, Palmer has received interest from potential adopters. However, she believes they won’t be ready for their forever homes until they are about 12 weeks old.

In the meantime, she continues to expose them to different experiences, such as the sound of a vacuum.
