In February 2024, King Charles shared his cancer diagnosis with the world. More than two years later, while the specific type remains private, the monarch continues his treatment journey with grace and determination.
On May 26, 2026, something beautiful unfolded at York Hospital. King Charles visited the Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Cancer Centre to celebrate the facility’s fresh renovations, and what happened next surprised royal watchers everywhere.

During his tour, the king spent time connecting with employees and patients who make the center special. A video captured a truly touching moment—King Charles embracing a woman with a warm hug and gentle kiss on the cheek.
For those familiar with royal protocol, this level of affection is wonderfully rare and absolutely heartwarming.
A Shared Journey Creates Beautiful Bonds
King Charles and Kate Middleton both faced their cancer diagnoses around the same time. This shared experience created a powerful bond between them, and both have channeled their journeys into supporting others facing similar battles.
The visit included a special stop at the facility’s newly created rose garden—a peaceful sanctuary where visitors can find comfort and connection with nature during their treatment.
“The King, Patron of Macmillan Cancer Support since 1997, visited York Hospital – the site of the newly redeveloped Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Cancer Centre. His Majesty met staff and patients, including local people with lived experience of cancer who contributed to the centre’s design,” the Royal Family shared on Instagram.
“The King also planted a rose in the garden, a new calm space created for visitors to enjoy nature during their time at the centre.”
The responses from those following the royal visit overflowed with warmth and gratitude. People celebrated seeing King Charles honor the dedication of healthcare heroes who devote their lives to caring for cancer patients.
“My daughter with the mask on. She had popped in for treatment and bumped into King Charles. Thank you for making her day,” one grateful parent shared.
The genuine connection between the monarch and those he met reminds us all of the power of compassion, especially during life’s most challenging moments.
