On a stormy Thursday evening, the usually tranquil Sea Isle City bay turned into a scene of unexpected drama and rescue. As the winds whipped through at 40 mph, Brennan Bollard, a parasail operator, found himself thrust into the role of a rescuer.

Despite not being on duty, Bollard’s instincts kicked in when he noticed a pair of kayakers struggling in the turbulent waters. The couple, along with their two dogs, had been enjoying a paddle when the storm hit and overturned their kayak.

From a nearby window, a resident captured the moment Bollard sprang into action. Without hesitation, he dashed to his boat, leapt aboard, and sped across the bay to reach the distressed kayakers.

“We were on the deck like, ‘Oh my gosh, we gotta do something,’” recalled Alex Clarke, a bystander who witnessed the event.

Casey Clarke added, “Next thing you know, we saw Brennan sprinting down the dock, and within 30 seconds he was full throttle grabbing them.”

The relief among onlookers was palpable. “As soon as we saw Brennan, we were like, ‘they’ll be fine. They’re in good hands,’” Casey further noted.

While Bollard successfully retrieved the dogs and the woman from the water, the man managed to return to the dock on his own. Reflecting on the incident, Bollard emphasized the importance of life jackets, noting they might have been crucial to their survival in such rough conditions.
