  • A Good Samaritan found a puppy abandoned in the woods with all his belongings around him.
  • The Good Samaritan called a local shelter that rescued the pup and brought him to a vet where he was found to have an injured leg.
  • Hank the pup needs extensive surgery and vet and shelter staff are working on fattening him up and giving him love and care before he can be operated on.

We may never know what goes on inside the minds of pets who get abandoned.  But we know that they have a huge capacity to forgive and love again.

When 8-month-old Hank was left in the woods, he had his bed and a sealed bag of food that he could not open. Amidst what was left of his old life, he patiently waited.  Fortunately, a Good Samaritan found him and called the local animal shelter.

Shelter staff immediately responded to the call and rescued Hank.  They were expecting an aggressive dog, typical of animals in survival mode, but proved otherwise.

Rosa Fond, founder of Humans and Animals United said, “He was nothing but love from the moment they got him. Everybody says that he’s the sweetest dog.”

Hank was transported to the vet where they found out that he had a broken leg.  It must have been too painful for Hank to move that is why he remained still on his bed. The doctors said that the wound was already more than two weeks old and that extensive surgery is needed.

That is where Humans and Animals United came in.  They provided the medical treatment and care that Hank needed.

But before that happens, Hank still needs to gain weight before he can be operated on.   Veterinary staff are working on it aside from giving him love and attention.

When Humans and Animals United posted about Hank on Facebook, adoption requests flowed in.  But Fond said that Hank still has a little bit of a journey before he’s fully adoptable. “But he’s safe now and he’ll never, ever be hurt again.”
