California-based nonprofit 10,000 Degrees has received an incredible $42 million gift from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. The donation will further the organization’s mission to help students from low-income backgrounds access higher education and fulfilling careers.

10,000 Degrees has supported more than 80,000 students and distributed over $113 million in scholarships across nearly five decades. Their work aims to break the cycle of generational poverty and create lasting opportunities within communities.

“We are deeply grateful for Ms. Scott’s confidence and investment in our mission and proven college success model,” said Kim Mazzuca, President and CEO of 10,000 Degrees.

This milestone donation will address gaps in educational opportunity, providing more students with crucial advising, scholarships, and mentoring through every stage of their college journey.

“Our mission has always been to ensure that every student, no matter their background, has a real chance to achieve their potential and to live a healthy, happy and prosperous life,” shared Mazzuca.

Guy Lampard, the nonprofit’s board chair, celebrated the news: “Ms. Scott’s gift will have a profound and lasting impact – significantly increasing support for our students from their first step toward college through graduation and into meaningful careers.”

This generous support is set to help students achieve not only their dreams, but also strengthen their families and communities for generations to come.
