While “The Hunting Wives” brings a playful and dramatic mix, the cast faced challenging, emotional moments during production. Malin Åkerman shares how a particularly dark scene left both her and co-star Dermot Mulroney deeply moved.

“Once we were done with the scene, I ended up just sobbing,” she tells TODAY.com.

Åkerman plays Margo Banks, who navigates a complex marriage with Jed Banks, played by Mulroney. The story takes dramatic turns as secrets are revealed and emotions run high.

“I don’t want to hear another f—— word — about any of it,” Mulroney’s character says, reflecting the intense stakes of the storyline.

Behind the scenes, Åkerman is grateful for Mulroney’s kindness throughout filming. She describes the experience as intense but was comforted by her co-star’s support and professionalism.

“He did not like that at all,” she says, recalling how challenging the scene was for Mulroney. “When you really get into that, and you have a man slap you, it’s a weird feeling,” Åkerman adds.

Her husband, Jack Donnelly, also found the scene difficult to watch, but everyone could see the dedication and care behind the performances.

Series creator Rebecca Cutter praised both actors, calling the climactic moment “electric” and commending their commitment to the roles.

Åkerman felt lucky to portray the full journey of Margo, a character she describes as deeply layered and an exciting challenge to play.

“She’s an incredibly complicated, nuanced human, and for an actress, it’s so much fun to play that,” Åkerman shares. “It’s juicy, and I was excited to jump in.”
