The residents of Holbrooks, Coventry were initially confused to find candy canes outside their homes last week.

A homeowner soon found who the culprit was: a mystery Santa.

According to the CCTV footage, two people in costumes have been making the festive drop-offs around Alderney Close in the middle of the night.

One is wearing a Santa hat while the other is dressed as a giant Christmas tree. Together, the costumes make the scene more comical.

One resident, Becky Leaper, said she and her husband Michael were reduced to hysterical laughter when they spotted Santa and his helper in their security camera footage.

They had already found it hilarious the first time, but encountering the duo for the second time was even funnier.

Becky, who is also a police staff worker, shared, “My husband thought someone was trying to break into our car so he opened the window and then burst out laughing.“

They watched as the tree walked up their drive to put a candy cane on their van before moving on to the nearby homes.

Aside from the initial confusion, families found it a welcome delight. The children are pleased to discover sweets on their family vehicles, while parents appreciate the festive cheer.

“The kids think it’s really funny and that Santa is having them delivered. We’re waiting to see who it will be this Sunday,” Becky said. “We all think it’s great and after such a rubbish year it’s good to lift spirits—it’s nice for people to have a good laugh and the kids get excited to know who it is when everything else is so negative.”
