  • Yogi, a Caucasian Ovcharka, quickly grew from a tiny puppy to a 170-pound teddy bear in the span of two years.
  • His parents were amazed at the speed that he outgrew his human siblings, who are still toddlers.
  • Despite his sheer size, Yogi still behaves like a puppy and loves cuddling his family.

Meet Yogi, a Caucasian Ovcharka. He belongs to one of the world’s largest breeds of dogs, so his parents had an idea about just how big he could get. Still, they couldn’t help but be amazed by the speed at which he grew.

In Romania, these bear-like dogs serve as livestock guardians who can take down wolves and bears to protect their flocks.

But after moving to his family’s suburban home in the U.S., Yogi only has to worry about protecting his humans.

Yogi was just a tiny puppy when he was welcomed by his new family. He instantly developed a close bond with all three of his human siblings, but he particularly became BFFs with the youngest, Donovan, who was just a baby then.

Their mom, Laura, recalled how Donovan kept wanting to cuddle Yogi, perhaps thinking he was a big stuffed animal. So, she made sure to teach him boundaries.

Donovan has since learned to care for his furry friend by helping with the feeding, grooming, and training. Sometimes, he would get caught sneaking snacks for Yogi!

And while Donovan grew over the next few years, Yogi quickly outgrew him at an amazing speed. He currently weighs 170 pounds and stands 6 feet tall at just two years old — and he could still grow up to over 200 pounds!

Laura shared, “The size difference is just too funny. We knew by doing research how big he could be, but it’s a whole different thing when you’re actually watching him grow yourself. It’s ridiculous how big he is.”

Despite his sheer size, Yogi is still a gentle giant, although he underestimates his size sometimes.

He would sometimes climb on top of his family members to ask for a cuddle, thinking he’s still a tiny puppy.
