Ruth said that she was already sleeping when Toby started barking loudly at around 11:30 pm.

The barking sounded urgent, as if he wanted her to get up.

As Ruth rolled over in bed, she heard a loud crash directly overhead. A meteorite had crash-landed on her bed — and on the exact spot where she had been sleeping moments before!

Ruth jumped out of bed in disbelief. Thankfully, she was uninjured.

When Ruth reported the incident later, it was confirmed that the meteorite was most likely debris from a meteor shower that happened earlier in the evening.

Thanks to Toby’s warning, Ruth moved out of harm’s way.

Ruth shared her thoughts on how Toby might have known in advance: “I was told there is sometimes a bang when meteors enter the atmosphere. He might have been responding to that. Being a dog, his hearing is better than ours. But we’ll never know for certain.”

Ruth said that Toby had alerted her before to the sound of cars or animals outside.

It turns out that the vigilant pup could also be aware of dangers from outer space!

“Toby has been great company. I love him,” Ruth said.

While Ruth’s home will need some repairs, she’s thankful that no harm came to her, thanks to her beloved rescue dog.

“My grandkids think ‘Paw Patrol’ should make an episode about him,” Ruth added with a laugh.
