Shelter’s 8-year Feline resident wins $10K donation

  • Three cats won the “Purrfectly Impurrfect” contest which earned for theirs shelters a $10K donation each.
  • Shelters across America have entered over 2,000 adoptable cats in the contest.
  • The contest aims to raise awareness for overlooked cats’ beautiful attributes in spite of their age, appearance, and personality.

Grace may be initially standoffish to humans but for the most scared and timid newcomers to the shelter, she is a mama cat.

She is picky when it comes to who she gives her head butts and purrs to. And this “lack” in human interaction may be the reason why she has not been adopted yet.

She has been staying at the Colonial Capital Humane Society in New Bern, North Carolina for the past 2,801 days and counting. To make potential adopters aware of how Grace would make a wonderful pet, they entered her in Arm and Hammer Cat Litter’s “Purrfectly Impurrfect” contest.

With the shelters’ overwhelming response to the contest, Arm & Hammer Cat Litter has pledged an additional $50,000 donation to shelters yearly through its Feline Generous platform.

Rebecca Blank, group brand manager for Arm & Hammer Pet Care said, “We hope this raises awareness for these cats that tend to get overlooked in shelters.” She adds that age, appearance, and personality are some of the reasons why. It was really hard for the judges to choose as there were so many interesting stories that came through.

Aside from the donation, Grace and her fellow winners, JR and Frank, also won for their shelters counseling services of certified cat behavior consultant Pam Johnson-Bennett.  She helps in transitioning pets when they are finally adopted into their forever homes.

JR, the other winner, is a resident of Dutchess County SPCA in Hyde Park, New York and has lost his hearing permanently.  He is in need of surgery to remove his ears to make him pain-free.

Frank, the third of the winner cats, is from Focus on Ferals in Kent County, Michigan.  He also had an ear infection and cheek injury which made him physically scarred but a total lover.

These three embody the Purrfectly Impurrfect contest.  Blank says, “We just hope more of those cats will find homes into 2021.”
