This Speedy Tortoise Loves Playing Soccer with Pups [Video]

• Jaguar is one speedy tortoise — he can even keep up with his new family’s playful pups!
• His family found out one day that the tortoise loved chasing after a ball, just like their pups.
• Nowadays, Jaguar and his dog sibling, Marcel, love playing fetch and soccer friendlies with each other.

When Rudy Janssens brought home a tortoise 30 years ago from a small Belgian forest, he never thought that it was one speedy tortoise — and that it would go on to enjoy playing ball with the family pets for generations to come.

Rudy decided to name the tortoise Jaguar when he noticed that “he is really fast,” he told GNN. “The hotter the weather, the faster.”

Rudy first noticed Jaguar’s need for speed while his sons were playing soccer in the garden at their Antwerp house. The tortoise joined in and ran after the ball!

Jaguar enjoyed playing soccer with their family dog at the time, a Bouvier des Flandres. Rudy shared, “He could take the ball in his mouth [and] run into the house, with Jaguar chasing him.”

Jaguar’s playmate nowadays is a playful Dachshund pup. Take a look at one of their soccer friendlies:

Jaguar could easily keep up!

The pup is named Marcel, after Rudy’s late father. The energetic Marcel loves playing soccer with Jaguar so much!

The incoming winter has put the pair’s soccer season on break, however, to make way for Jaguar’s hibernation.

Rudy said, “Jaguar has already buried himself in the sand somewhere in our garden. In spring, he will appear again, always a happy moment: He’s back, winter is passed!”

Who knew a tortoise could play fetch, or even soccer? His playful friendship with his family’s pups is truly a sight to watch!
