A tiny orphaned Pacific walrus calf has found new hope after being discovered alone on a remote northern Alaska beach. The five-month-old male calf, named Annautaq, weighed about 220 pounds when he arrived at SeaWorld Orlando.

SeaWorld’s expert animal care and veterinary team now provides him with around-the-clock attention and nurturing. Only four US institutions currently have the specialized resources needed to care for walrus calves like Annautaq.

“He is adapting remarkably well to his new environment and responds positively to his caregivers,” said a SeaWorld spokesperson.

Autonomous workers from the US Fish and Wildlife Service played a crucial role in locating the vulnerable calf and ensuring his safe transport to Orlando. Their swift action gave Annautaq the lifeline he desperately needed.

“Every life matters, and seeing this little one thrive reminds us why conservation work is so important,” the team shared.
