A remarkable woman from Long Island celebrated her 100th birthday in a rather unique way—by hitting the gym.

Geraldine “Jerry” Leo, who turned a century old on Friday, is showing the world that age is just a number when it comes to staying fit.

Leo is a regular at the Great South Bay YMCA in Bay Shore, where she enjoys aerobics classes and keeps pace with her fellow gym-goers.

Her journey with the YMCA began in 1991 alongside her husband, and since then, she has become a beacon of inspiration for everyone she encounters.

What sets Leo apart is her ability to hold a plank for five minutes, a feat that leaves many in awe.

“She definitely puts some of the class to shame, including me,” shared her friend Marion Saturno.

Planking offers numerous benefits. It’s a convenient exercise that doesn’t require equipment or a gym membership.

It also supports back health, prevents injuries, enhances posture, and boosts mental well-being.

“Plank exercises work your core muscles, which are located between your pelvic floor and diaphragm. The area is also known as your trunk. These muscles support your movements and stabilize the spine,” explains a health expert.

In addition to planking, Leo participates in weightlifting classes, further strengthening her body and spirit.

When asked about her secret to maintaining such vibrant health, Leo shared simple yet powerful advice.

“Be consistent, be positive, and keep moving in whatever you do. That’s very important,” she said.
