Barbie empowers women with new collection
- Mattel launched their newest Barbie Campaign Team and we are happy with it.
- It is a set of four women — a black presidential woman candidate, a fundraiser, a campaign manager, and a voter.
- This new set will cost $39.99 per set and will be available at major online shopping sites.
She’s a Barbie girl, but she’s more than just a doll — she represents women empowerment!
After Mattel had launched successfully the Barbie doll line that showcased “imperfections” and “disabilities,” they are at it again doing unique Barbie dolls that may introduce kids to various leadership roles and inspire them to picture-out their future — and that’s why the newest Campaign Team came together!
The Campaign Team is a set of four dolls with diverse colors showing roles of a campaign manager, a voter, a fundraiser, and a presidential candidate.
The black doll wearing a pink blazer and black pants represents the presidential candidate, while the fundraiser and the campaign manager both wear dresses holding a laptop and a bag, and the fourth one, the voter, wears tattered jeans, a loose shirt with a sticker that says “I voted.”
“Since 1959, Barbie has championed girls and encouraged them to be leaders whether in the classroom, community or someday, of the country,” says Mattel’s SVP and Global Head of Barbie & Dolls, Lisa McKnight.
“With less than a third of elected leaders in the U.S. being women, and Black women being even less represented in these positions, we designed the Barbie Campaign Team with a diverse set of dolls to show all girls they can raise their voices. Our goal is to remove barriers to leadership by giving girls the tools to imagine and play out their future roles.”
They worked with She Should Run — a nonprofit organization that supports women and guides those who aspire for a position in an office — to teach children the importance of voting and show them the different leaders roles in society that any woman can do.
“Understanding the role we play in empowering our daughters is the first step — we have to have healthy conversations at home and encourage curiosity. By getting them excited today, we’re giving them the confidence to raise their voices and run for office tomorrow,” says the founder and CEO of She Should Run, Erin Loos Cutraro.
Young girls need to learn more about politics in early stages and so the Barbie Campaign Team also has a website where they can play ballots and print some activities. It even prompts them to make their own campaign advocacies and speeches.
The Barbie Campaign Team is available at major online stores for $39.99 per set.
