Brutally Honest Description of A Grumpy Cat Leads To Reunion With Original Owner

Published

  • Willard was considered a grumpy cat by the shelter he was taken in.
  • They put him up for adoption with an honest description.
  • The original owner sees the post and reunites with the cat who is really sweet and loving.

Would you adopt a cat that was described this way? — “Are you looking for an affectionate and loving new friend to snuggle with? It’s probably NOT this guy. This is Willard. Willard is old. He’s a grouch.”

Most probably not, right?  But it was effective in getting Willard adopted and reunited with his original owner.

In an online post, the Santa Rosa County Animal Services wrote aside from the description above, “He likes to be petted. But only sometimes. Head rubs? Allowed until they are not — then you are firmly reprimanded.”

And ended with, “Did you want to tell him where to sleep? Willard laughs at your ignorance. Willard is beholden to no man. Or woman.”

The post was certainly not the “naturally sweet and loving personality” description that would gather applications for adoption but it got the attention of the one who has been looking for Willard.

When Willard was brought to the shelter in September as a stray, they did not know that he was a missing cat and that there was someone waiting for him to come home.

Willard, whose name is really Jay, got lost a year ago.  Her owner Ashleigh thought that he would never see him again.  When she saw the shelter’s post, she immediately contacted them and showed them her photos of Jay.

When the reunion day came, they also found out that Willard was not really grouchy but has been nursing a broken heart from being separated from his mom.  His broken heart instantly healed as soon as he was in Ashleigh’s arms.

As the shelter’s spokesperson said, “[Ashleigh] was extremely happy and surprised to see him again. Willard lit up. He was more playful and excited than we have ever seen him.”

The cat who was beholden to no man, is in fact sweet and loving.  Back in his home and in the shelter of his mom’s loving arms, he is who he truly is.
