It turns out that a nifty feature of the Starlink satellite dishes also proved irresistible for a bunch of cats and animals — as many owners have witnessed.

Aaron Taylor said that he was surprised one snowy day when he found five cats curling up inside his $500 Starlink satellite dish, which is used to connect to the internet.

Apparently, the satellite dishes have a self-heating feature. This helps melt off snow so that there won’t be any interference with the connection. It is this feature that attracts the cats, who would curl up inside it during the day before retiring to their heated house at night.

Aaron believes that the satellite dish’s wide metal bowl absorbs and reflects the sun’s heat, while the self-heating feature warms from below. The ultra-warm effect would definitely make it an irresistible napping spot for cats.

Aaron shared a picture of the cats huddling for warmth inside the satellite dish on Twitter. He wrote in the caption, “Starlink works great until the cats find out that the dish gives off a little heat on cold days.”

He added that the furry obstruction “slows everything down.”

Not only cats enjoy the heat — another Starlink user shared a similar sighting, albeit of a raptor. The bird was seen enjoying the heat of the dish upon its talons.

The Starlink service is part of Elon Musk’s SpaceX company. There are already 1,600 satellites flying around in space. With permission from the U.S. government to launch many more, it aims to provide internet access to all corners of the world, including rural places far from any grid.
