Cat Surrendered for Being “Too Affectionate” Finds His Perfect Family [Video]

Quick Smiles:
- Jerry, a cat, was surrendered to the Humane Society of Broward County in Florida for being “too affectionate,” much to the surprise of the shelter staff who believe there’s no such thing as a cat being too affectionate.
- The shelter posted a TikTok video about Jerry’s story, highlighting his overly loving nature and slight shyness with new people, which drew a line of potential adopters the very next day.
- The couple who were first in line adopted Jerry and were so moved by the shelter’s efforts that they sponsored the adoption fees for a trio of cat siblings who had been at the shelter since Thanksgiving.
All pet owners have their preferences, but when a cat was surrendered to a Florida shelter for being “too affectionate,” the folks at the Humane Society of Broward County found it a bit hard to believe.
Jerry, a black and white feline friend, found himself in need of a new home because his former owner thought he was too chatty and too clingy. Yes, you read that right!
@humanebroward Too affectionate 💔 That’s the reason 4-year-old Jerry was given-up. Jerry is a sweet cat that loves to be pet and rub up against you, but his former owner said it annoyed her too much. Jerry loved her, but she didn’t love him back, so she turned him in to our shelter. Now he’s heartbroken and confused. He’s hoping that someone will love him for who he is – a lovebug! Will you make Jerry your Valentine this year? ❤️ #cat #catrescue #adoptme #catsoftiktok #foryoupage #adoptacat #fyp #foryou ♬ original sound – Humane Society Broward County
The confused yet excited staff members at the shelter knew they had a special gem on their hands.
“Most of our adopters are actually looking for affectionate cats! We believe there is no such thing as a cat that is too affectionate,” said Susan Leonti, the shelter’s digital marketing specialist.
Jerry’s former owner found his habit of greeting her at the door, rubbing against her legs, and seeking pets a little too much, but the shelter knew there were potential adopters out there who would adore this sweet kitty’s clingy nature.
Wanting to find the perfect home for Jerry, the shelter posted his story on TikTok, highlighting his affectionate nature but also noting his shyness around unfamiliar people.
To their delight, the very next morning, the shelter was buzzing with people who had seen the video and fallen in love with Jerry.
The lucky couple who got to bring Jerry home were the first in line, ready and eager to embrace all the love Jerry had to give.
The couple was not only thrilled to have Jerry as a new member of their family, but they also generously sponsored the adoption fees for a bonded trio of cat siblings who had been at the shelter since Thanksgiving.
In a delightful twist of fate, Jerry, the cat considered ‘too affectionate’, found a family who was more than happy to accept all his love and cuddles.
Here’s a toast to Jerry and his new family, a purrfectly affectionate match indeed!
