Chinese Seniors Drum Up Joy and Wellbeing
Quick Smiles:
- China’s growing senior population embraces energetic drumming classes.
- Programs boost physical, mental, and social wellness for retirees.
- Enrichment activities help seniors rediscover joy and purpose.
Across China, retirees are joining vibrant drumming classes, showing there’s no age limit to having fun and learning new skills.
These classes not only invite women to express themselves musically, but also strengthen their physical and cognitive wellbeing as part of the country’s focus on active aging.
“They are recording improvements in physical, mental, and cognitive well-being that increase economic well-being,” said Merril Silverstein, a sociologist at Syracuse University.
The weekly drum sessions also keep costs low while offering a sense of camaraderie and youthfulness that goes beyond traditional enrichment courses.
From dance and vocals to flower arranging, Hunan Province’s programs invite older adults to discover fresh activities and make the most of retirement.
Senior programs around the world might just borrow a beat from these trailblazing Chinese women and their invigorating approach to golden years.
Celebrate good news and keep moving forward with a smile!
