Dave Coulier, beloved for his role as Uncle Joey on "Full House," has announced he is undergoing treatment for HPV-related tongue cancer, just a year after overcoming non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

He discovered the new diagnosis during a routine scan, having experienced no symptoms beforehand.

"A year has flown by like that. It’s been a roller coaster," said Coulier.

He previously celebrated being cancer-free in March, following chemotherapy for lymphoma, but a recent PET scan revealed something unusual at the base of his tongue, leading to further tests.

"To go through chemotherapy and feel that relief of whoah, it’s gone, and then to get a test that says, well now you’ve got another kind of cancer … it is a shock to the system," Coulier shared.

After an initial negative biopsy, a follow-up scan showed further changes, prompting another biopsy that confirmed early stage, P16-positive oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma.

"They said it’s totally unrelated to my non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. This is a new cancer. … I said, 'Are you kidding me?'" Coulier recalled.

P16-positive cancers, often linked to HPV-16, generally have higher curability rates, offering hope for a successful treatment outcome.

The actor is currently undergoing radiation therapy with the expectation of finishing his last session at the end of the year.

"We found it early enough where it’s very treatable. … It’s got a 90% curability rate," Coulier explained.

Though the emotional toll is significant for him and his wife, Melissa, Coulier stays positive, saying, "I'm going to get on the other side of this."

He emphasizes the importance of listening to doctors and following up on health concerns, expressing gratitude that diligence led to early detection.

"The silver lining here is that I had cancer, which helped me detect my other cancer. It seems crazy to be making that statement, but it’s true," he stated.

Coulier looks forward to starting the new year having completed radiation, grateful for second chances and hopeful for continued good news.
