Quick Smiles:

  • Russell McKeehan endured paralysis after two life-altering accidents but never gave up hope.
  • Innovative surgeries by Dr. Scott Falci restored his mobility and reignited his dream.
  • Russell’s determination will let him walk his daughter down the aisle on her wedding day.

For Russell McKeehan, the dream of walking his daughter down the wedding aisle fueled his resilience through a cascade of hardships.

In 1995, a traumatic ambulance accident left him with unnoticed nerve damage that eventually cost him his mobility, leading to paralysis years later.

After years of perseverance, McKeehan turned to Dr. Scott Falci, a Denver neurosurgeon, whose expertise enabled Russell to regain the use of his arms and legs after a successful surgery in 2017.

“You can’t write soap opera as bad as what I’ve lived through,” McKeehan reflected.

However, fate struck again when a vehicle mishap caused further serious injuries, setting Russell’s recovery back substantially.

This year brought Russell back to Dr. Falci for a rare surgery that only a minority of patients receive, all to fulfill his heartfelt wish for his daughter’s upcoming wedding.

“In my mind, I want her day to be about her and not be about me, and the more normal I can be, the more happy she can be about this situation,” he shared.

Dr. Falci called Russell an “amazing” and “highly motivated guy,” adding, “Twelve hours after the surgery, we weren’t expecting this, he’s moving his arm, he’s pulling his arm up to his face, and he’s kicking his left leg. He’s a highly motivated guy, and he’s been through a lot, and, yeah, what he’s achieved, just with self-determination and desire is amazing.”

Russell’s inspiring journey shines as a beacon of hope, showing what can be achieved through courage, community, and the unwavering love between a father and daughter.
