  • A memorable experience of kindness transforms a travel mishap into a cherished memory.

In a delightful twist of fate, two French tourists discovered the generous spirit of a small Australian town after an unfortunate encounter with a kangaroo.

Melina Gitton and Florian Crepinior, while on a road trip, found themselves stranded near Nannup, a town with a population of just 1,500.

Their new Suzuki was rendered undriveable after the accident, leaving the couple in a bind, as they had spent most of their travel funds on the uninsured vehicle.

Despite the initial setback, Mr. Crepinior reflected on their experience with gratitude.

“I think without this kangaroo we would never know about Nannup. We were unlucky, but in this unlucky we were lucky,” he shared.

“Until the end of my life, for sure, I will never forget that.”

The residents of Nannup quickly came to the couple’s aid, offering them a place to stay with Kate and Craig Jenkins.

The Jenkins family welcomed the tourists into their home for three weeks, including during the Easter holiday.

Word of the “Frenchies” spread throughout the town, bringing with it a wave of well-wishes and donations to help fix the car.

During their stay, the couple participated in local sports events and bonded with their unexpected hosts.

Craig and Florian, despite lacking mechanical expertise, took on the challenge of repairing the car.

“Neither of them had done it before but they worked it out together,” Ms. Jenkins recounted.

“Then what they couldn’t figure out our local mechanic in Nannup fixed up the last few bits.”

The Jenkins children, inspired by the experience, suggested placing a sign outside town to welcome future travelers in need.

Such acts of kindness and community spirit turned a potential travel nightmare into an unforgettable adventure, highlighting the warmth and generosity of Nannup’s residents.
