Quick Smiles:

  • A viral story in South Bend, Indiana led to a huge outpouring of community support.
  • Over 500 donors raised more than $22,000 to buy Mo Riles a new truck.
  • Auto shops have offered to help keep Mo’s new vehicle in great shape.

When photos of Mo Riles’s battered pickup truck spread online, the South Bend community sprang into action to help.

Colin Crowel, a local business owner, started a fundraiser and quickly rallied more than 500 people who raised enough for a reliable 2019 Chevy Silverado.

At Gates Chevrolet, Mo was finally handed the keys to his new ride, surrounded by supporters who made it all possible.

“God blessed me,” Mo said, filled with gratitude as he received his new truck.

For Colin Crowel, helping Mo achieve safe transportation has been a truly rewarding experience.

“I’ve got to do a lot of amazing things,” Crowel shared. “I think this is the top moment.”

The initiative aimed to give Mo peace of mind and comfort, especially as he continues to recover his health.

“We wanted to make sure that we take the load off his shoulders so he can heal and be comfortable,” Crowel explained. “Now that we have him in a safe vehicle, he can get to his appointments, get to work, go to the grocery store — and know that when he gets back to his vehicle, it’s going to start.”

Mo’s appreciation for the kindness around him remains strong.

“I’m so appreciative of this community,” he said. “It’s not about me — it’s about the efforts of a man who saw a stressful situation for another human being.”

This heartwarming story is a reminder that the power of compassion and collective action can truly change lives. Let’s keep passing kindness forward wherever we can!
